Filled with history, mystery, and fun, California is always at the top of the travel list for family vacations. Whether it’s the call of the mountains or the action of the city, families have been making the trek out west for generations. Los Angeles (and vicinity)
Every family visiting California should take a trip to the greater Los Angeles area. There is so much to see and do that even after a week you won’t have scratched the surface. One of the biggest attractions here is Disneyland. Located in Anaheim, this is where Walt Disney’s original magical dream finally became reality. There are several parks to visit and plenty of great hotels so it would be easy to make this a stand-alone vacation.
San Francisco
Traveling north along the coastline brings us to beautiful San Francisco. Golden Gate Park, Alcatraz, and Fisherman’s Wharf are some of the best attractions for families found here. Stroll along the dock and enjoy the cool sea breeze, fabulous restaurants, and souvenir shops. One must-see when visiting here is the Aquarium of the Bay. Featuring more than 20,000 sea creatures, this impressive exhibit gets kids up close and personal with some of the most unique creatures in the world.
The Winchester Mystery House
Just a short drive from San Francisco is the bustling city of San Jose. Right in the middle of the business is one of the most unique structures in the world; the Winchester Mystery House. Built by the wife of the creator of the Winchester Rifle, this home started as a small farmhouse and has been worked on and expanded continuously for 100 years. Construction stopped briefly when Mrs. Winchester died, however, they are still working on the property today. The tour is filled with ghost stories and many surprises around every corner.
Berkeley, California
If your family is filled with foodies, Berkeley is the place to visit. Referred to as an eater’s dream, Berkeley is filled with restaurants of all types that are also very kid-friendly. From New York style pizza to incredible Chinese food and everything in between, you would be hard-pressed to not find something incredible for even the pickiest of eaters. With plenty of great hotels, fun activities for all ages, and great day trips in the area, there is plenty for everyone here in Berkeley.
